Children are influenced by everything around them. But the most influential to a child is the family they reside in. The home life of a child is where everything is taught good or bad. Every person in one way or another has an influence over a developing child, but the role model of the parents is where most things learned come from.
We as parents have to watch our actions, and our words every second our children are around us. The way we react to certain people or certain circumstances will surely be mimicked by our children. The way we conduct ourselves as adults will leave a lasting impression on our children. Of course there are times our behaviour as adults will be not as it should be, and it is in these times we need to explain to our children that what they just heard or witnessed was wrong. If given an intelligible reason why, children will comprehend and will probably not give it a second thought.
Children are influenced greatly by their friends and peers. This is where a lot of hard work comes into play for parents. We as parents need to involve ourselves more and more in our children's lives. Know who their friends are, know where they are when they leave the house. Set curfews and restrictions. Give children rules that they can live with and if needed can be re-structured at a later time. Set good examples as adults, and make the older children know they set examples as well to the younger children.
It’s hard as parents to know everything we do or say is watched so closely by the children we bring into this world. It’s a privilege to raise children, and watch them grow into outstanding adults, and we are the ones who mould them into what they become in later years. It is our actions, our words, and our life style that influences them as children and which leaves an everlasting effect on them as adults.
We don't want our child to think just like us, or act just like us, we want them to be individuals, but decent individuals. They all have their own temperament, and their own ideas and ideals, that is what makes them unique. We as parents just help guide them through the years to becoming outstanding people, by setting good examples, by being a good influence over the years. And most of all let us teach our children “JESUS”
Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it. Proverbs 22: 6
